VFP5 was the first major update to Visual FoxPro. The version number was originally 4, but it was bumped to 5 for consistency with the rest of Visual Studio 97.
Major updates included a complete reworking of the Debugger, which was essentially the same as it had been in the non-Visual product. The object model was also tweaked with the introduction of the DODEFAULT function, which made it much less common to have to specify the parentclass on method calls.
